Favre a factor in Cowher turning down Jets?
Was Brett Favre a factor in Bill Cowher’s decision to decline a chance to become the Jets head coach?
That’s the speculation in the New York Post this morning, which cites an unnamed NFL insider who says Cowher won’t want the risk-taking Favre as his quarterback.
“There’s no way he’s taking Brett Favre as his quarterback,” the insider said of Cowher.
Cowher has been mum about potential plans to return to coaching. He previously said he plans on staying in the TV booth next season, but has been linked to several jobs (Chiefs, Browns, Jets) this month.
Boomer Esiason, who works with Cowher as an analyst for CBS, said the coach has not given his colleagues any insight into his plans. But Esiason said with Favre’s tender shoulder and advancing age, Cowher might make a better investment.
“I’d much rather give Bill Cowher $13 million a year than Brett Favre,” Esiason said to Newsday.
